The Neighborhood
Loraine Street is situated between West Warren Avenue and Grand River Avenue in Detroit's Core City neighborhood. Just 2 miles from Downtown and bound by I-94 and I-96 expressways, Core City’s convenient location makes it an ideal home for industry, creativity and enterprise.
The History
It was bigger than Heinz and in the early 1900s it was one of Michigan's largest employers. The Williams Brothers Company took up most of Loraine Street with its multi-building pickling operation before closing in 1917. As the neighborhood said goodbye to Mr. Pickle, it welcomed other companies who repurposed factory space to meet their business’ needs. Time went on, and similar to many areas of Detroit, residents and businesses headed to the suburbs, and all but two of the original factory buildings were demolished.
These two historic buildings still stand today and are welcoming new creatives and companies to get productive within their walls.
CORE City Today
Over the past several years, Core City’s Grand River Creative Corridor has seen an influx of new innovative businesses and food and beverage options. Detroit Institute of Bagels, Barda, Cafe Prince, Core City Fitness, and Lafayette American are all located within walking distance to Loraine Street. Puma Detroit & Vesper are coming soon. Detroit Training Center, a construction workforce development organization, and ALTA Equipment, a construction equipment company, are our most direct neighbors.
